More than £3 billion in inheritance tax (IHT) was paid in 2012/13, according to figures from the Ofice for National Statistics(ONS). The £3,147 billion received by HM Revenue & Customs is the largest in five years and is eight per cent higher than the amount collected in 2011/12.
